My husband and I rarely have date nights. To be honest, we miss having date nights and spending quality time with each other. So I decided to do something special right at home. I used my Cricut Explore 3, to make customized t-shirts for our car date night. I did all of this while the kids were asleep and while he was at work. This project was completed in 30 minutes and it’s beginner-friendly.
Some of the materials that I used for this project is:
Women’s T-Shirt Blank, V-Neck | Cricut.com
LightGrip Machine Mat, 12″ x 12″ | Cricut.com
Cricut EasyPress Mat, 12″ x 12″ | Cricut.com
Cricut Explore® 3 | Cricut.com
LightGrip Machine Mat, 12″ x 12″ | Cricut.com
Applicator and Remover Set | Cricut.com
So, are you ready to hear how I brought our date night to life? Ok, let’s get into it.
I gathered all of my material and created my own design in the Cricut Design app. The fonts I used were “Dear John” and “Babette”. Once my design was ready I clicked “make it” which is located on the top right corner of the app. Before clicking continue, I made sure I mirror the image. This is very important because if you do not mirror the image it will be backward when you iron it on the shirt. Then I selected the material that I’m using which is “Everyday Iron-on”.
The everyday iron-on is my favorite iron-on material. It has a warm peel. You peel it away while the project is still warm. The iron on has two sides and it’s important that you know what they are. The shiny side is what protects your iron-on. When you place the iron-on on the Cricut mat make sure that the shiny part is face down on the mat. You want to make sure that you’re cutting the right side. Trust me, this will all make sense once you complete the project and see the end results.
Once my Cricut app notified me that the project was finished cutting, I started to remove the excess from my cut. I started from the top corner of the iron and pull gently until the excess was removed. Then I started to weed the remaining parts of my project. Weeding is my favorite part and it’s actually very calming. Then I removed my design from my Cricut mat and turned my easy press on.
I set my easy press to 400 degrees. The easy press doesn’t take a long time to pre-heat. Plus, once it’s heated it does make a beep sound that lets you know it’s ready. Then I put my shirt on the Cricut easypress mat and the design on the shirt. It’s important to make sure that the design is centered correctly before you start to use the easypress. Also, make sure that the sticky part is faced down. So once I completed those steps, I pressed the shirts a few times until I felt like it was ready. The easypress does beep to let you know when it’s done.
I waited about 15 seconds and then peeled away from the shirts. The peeling is another important part because you want to make sure you’re not peeling too fast. You want to make sure that your design has completed transfer. Once I saw the end results my husband and I was ready for our date night. This was my first time making shirts with my Cricut. I enjoyed creating these shirts so much and I can’t wait to see what I create next. Cricut makes it easy for everyone to be able to use their products.
Here is how our car date night went. We laughed, we talked and enjoyed each other company. Now, I believe it’s safe to say that we had a successful date night right at home without spending a lot of money. If you’re looking to make some DIY projects at home, check out Cricut.
